In short
Devdwell is a Mac, Windows and web app that keeps every website you build in one place. These are the questions people ask most, grouped by topic. Anything else, email info@devdwell.com.
The basics
What is Devdwell?
Devdwell is a Mac and Windows app, with a web app for phones and browsers, that keeps every website you build in one place. It shows which sites are live, lets you change a site by describing what you want beside a live preview, publishes with one button after a private staging check, and shares one site at a time.
Who is Devdwell for?
Anyone who builds websites and has more than one to look after: freelancers, studios, small teams and founders.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You describe changes in plain words, or click the part of the page you mean. If you do code, your sites are ordinary website files you can open in any editor.
Is Devdwell a website builder?
Not in the usual sense. It doesn’t have a design canvas, a content management system or an online shop. It’s the place where your sites live, get changed, get published and get shared.
Who makes Devdwell?
Devdwell is made by Lumiave. You can reach us at info@devdwell.com.
Getting it
How do I get it?
Request early access. We read every request and email you a download link when your place is ready.
Which computers does it run on?
Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later) and PCs with Windows 10 or 11. The web app works in any modern browser, including on your phone.
Does it work on Intel Macs or Linux?
Not at the moment. The desktop app needs a Mac with Apple silicon or a Windows 10 or 11 PC. The web app works in any modern browser on any system.
How much does it cost?
There’s no price during early access.
How do I sign in?
With your email address. We email you a six-digit code; there’s no password to remember.
Editing and publishing
How do I change a site?
Open it in its own tab, describe what you want in plain words or click the part of the page you mean, and watch the live preview update.
Can I edit several sites at once?
Yes. Each site opens in a tab, and changes carry on in the background while you look at another one.
How do I publish?
Click Publish, tick Staging, Production or both, and click Publish to selected. The card on your dashboard then shows the site as live.
What is staging?
A private copy of your site at its own link, for checking changes or getting approval. The live site doesn’t change until you publish to production.
Where is my site published?
To hosting in your own name, which you connect to Devdwell once. The site and its address stay yours.
Does the dashboard know about sites I publish another way?
Yes. A site’s status stays right however it was published, even if it wasn’t from Devdwell.
Sharing
Can I share a site with a client?
Yes. Invite them by email to a single site. They only see that site, and you choose whether they can edit, or edit and publish. You can change or remove their access at any time.
What can the people I invite do?
With “Can edit” they can change the site and you publish it. With “Can edit and publish” they can also put changes live.
Do people I invite need the desktop app?
No. They can work from the web app in any browser. Their changes are made by a computer that has the site and Devdwell open.
Phones and sync
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. Open devdwell.com/app in your phone’s browser and sign in to see your synced sites and what’s live.
Can I make changes from my phone?
Yes. Describe the change in the web app and one of your computers with the site makes it, then sends back a picture of the result.
What if my computer is off?
The change waits, and runs when Devdwell next opens on a computer that has the site.
Do my sites sync between computers?
Yes. Sign in with the same email on each Mac or PC and your sites are there.
Your sites and your data
Can I bring in sites I’ve already built?
Yes. Import a folder or a downloaded file and Devdwell gets it ready to edit and publish. If anything needs fixing, it works on a copy, so your original stays as it was.
What happens to my sites if I stop using Devdwell?
Nothing. They’re ordinary website files on your computer, and published sites stay online where they are.
Who owns my sites?
You do. Your sites, and everything in them, stay yours. See our terms of use.
What information do you keep?
What we need to run Devdwell for you, such as your email and your synced sites. Our privacy policy has the details.
