In short
To bring a site you’ve already built into Devdwell, drag its folder or a downloaded file (such as a zip) onto the dashboard, or click Import and choose it. Devdwell reads the files, tidies up anything that would stop it working and checks the site loads, all on a copy, so the original folder isn’t touched.
What you can import
- A folder with the site’s files in it, such as a project you built in a code editor.
- A downloaded file, such as a zip of a site you exported from another tool or got from a previous developer.
If you can open the site’s pages from files on your computer, Devdwell can usually bring it in. Sites that only exist inside a hosted builder need exporting as files first; check that builder’s own help for what its export includes.
Steps
Find the site’s files
Locate the folder with the site’s files on your computer, or the file you downloaded.
Drag it onto Devdwell
Drag the folder or file onto the dashboard. Or click Import and choose it.
Let it get the site ready
Devdwell reads the files, tidies up anything that would stop the site working and checks it loads. It does this on a copy, so your original stays as it was.
Open the new card
The site appears as a new card on your dashboard. Click it to see it in the preview and start making changes.
Watch it

After importing
The new card shows Ready to publish until you publish it. Open the card to look at it in the preview, make a change, or publish it.
Questions
Will importing change my original files?
No. Devdwell works on a copy. Your original folder or file isn’t touched.
Can I import a site built with a site builder?
If the builder lets you export the site as files, yes. Sites that only exist inside a hosted builder can’t be imported until they’re exported.
