In short
Squarespace is better if you want a single, well-designed site from a template with selling or appointments built in, and don’t mind it living on Squarespace. Devdwell is better if you build or look after several sites, want them as files you can take anywhere, and want to change them by describing what you want and share them one at a time.

Where Squarespace is better
- Templates that look finished. Strong starting designs that stay consistent as you edit.
- Business tools included. Selling, scheduling, member areas and email campaigns, on the same account. Devdwell has none of these.
- One bill, one place. Hosting, a domain and the editor together.
Where Devdwell is better
- Every site you look after. One dashboard with a card per site: its picture, its address, when it was last published and whether changes are waiting.
- Your files, your choice. Sites are ordinary files on your computers, saved online with their history. Squarespace can export some content for other platforms, but not the site’s design as files.
- Plain-words changes with a safety step. Describe the change or click what you mean, check it in the live preview at phone and desktop sizes, then publish to a private staging link before the live site.
- Access per site. Invite a client to their site only, as “Can edit” or “Can edit and publish”. No shared passwords.
- From your phone. See every site and ask for changes in the web app; your computer makes them.
Moving from Squarespace
To bring a Squarespace site into Devdwell you rebuild it as a normal website (keeping the same page addresses where you can), then import it. Plan redirects for any address that changes; the website redesign checklist walks through it.
Can you use both?
Yes. Keep a shop on Squarespace and your other sites in Devdwell. Devdwell manages the sites you keep as files; it doesn’t edit Squarespace sites.
Questions
Is Devdwell a Squarespace alternative?
If you look after several sites and want to own them as files, yes. If you want a template with selling and scheduling built in, Squarespace does things Devdwell doesn’t.
Can I import a Squarespace site into Devdwell?
Not directly. Squarespace doesn’t export a site’s design as files, so you would rebuild it as a normal website first, then import it.
Which is better for a small business?
For one site with a shop or bookings and nobody to look after it, Squarespace is simpler. If a designer looks after your site, or you have more than one, Devdwell keeps them in one place and lets you make small changes yourself.
