In short
Wix is better if you want one site built visually from a template, with a shop, bookings or a members area added from its app market, and you’re happy for it to live on Wix. Devdwell is better if you look after several sites built in different ways, want them as files you can take anywhere, and want to share one site at a time with a client.

Where Wix is better
- Everything in one place for one site. Templates, drag-and-drop editing, hosting, a domain and email marketing under one account.
- Built-in business features. Online shop, bookings, events and members areas are add-ons rather than something you build. Devdwell has none of these.
- No files at all. If you never want to see a file or a folder, Wix keeps it that way.
Where Devdwell is better
- Many sites, whatever built them. One dashboard for every site you look after, each with its live status and last publish, not only sites made in one builder.
- Files you own. Your sites are ordinary files on your computers, saved online with their history. A Wix site can’t be downloaded as files to host somewhere else, so leaving Wix means rebuilding.
- Changes in plain words. Describe the change, or click the part of the page you mean, and see it in a live preview beside you. Then publish to a private staging link, the live site, or both.
- Per-site sharing. Give a client or a contractor one site with “Can edit” or “Can edit and publish”, without sharing a login.
- Your phone. Ask for a change from the web app on your phone; one of your computers makes it and sends back a picture.
Moving from Wix
Because Wix doesn’t export a site’s code, moving a Wix site into Devdwell means rebuilding it as a normal website first, then importing it. For a simple brochure site that’s often a short job; for a shop or a booking system it’s a bigger project, and staying on Wix may be the better call. Our website migration checklist covers keeping your search traffic when you do move.
Can you use both?
Yes. A business might keep its shop on Wix and its other sites, landing pages and experiments in Devdwell. Devdwell is for the sites you keep as files; it doesn’t manage Wix sites.
Questions
Is Devdwell a Wix alternative?
For some people. If you look after several sites and want them as files you own, yes. If you need a shop, bookings or a members area without building them, Wix does things Devdwell doesn’t.
Can I move a Wix site into Devdwell?
Not directly, because Wix doesn’t export a site’s code. You would rebuild the site as a normal website first, then import it into Devdwell.
Does Devdwell host my site like Wix does?
No. Devdwell publishes your site to the place you choose and keeps the files with you. It isn’t a hosting plan you pay for.
